Angels
In recent months there has been a lot of angel talk. There has always been a fascination surrounding these spiritual
servants of our God, but lately folks seem more enamored with them than ever. Because so many in the body of
Christ are flocking to places where angels have appeared or gifted speakers are sharing their angel stories, I felt
moved by the Holy Spirit to bring some balanced teaching to the table.
As I share what the Lord has shown me please know that I am not diminishing the role of our heavenly helpers or
saying they don’t exist. We know they exist because the Bible says they do. Perhaps because they can dwell in both
the realm of the spirit and here on earth they are a constant curiosity and mystery to us. They grab our imaginations
and we develop a longing from childhood to see them just like the shepherd’s did when the sky filled a choir of angels
proclaiming the birth of Messiah Jesus.
Angels most assuredly serve specified, varied and important roles in the Kingdom of God. They are released to help
us when we cry out to the Lord of Hosts to help us. They also carry out His orders of judgment. He puts His angels in
charge over us even when we don’t ask for them because He loves us and knows we need help. He sends angels to
minister to us as we pray and seek His face. They hide us under their wings and protect us. They, in concert with the
Holy Spirit, help us achieve the plans of the Father. They at times can be dispatched to bring us messages from the
Throne of Grace. As we release our faith in God, they stand with us and war against the powers and principalities and
rulers of darkness in high places as our God commissions them to do so. For His own purposes our God will send
angels in human form to talk to us or help us.
I am convinced that nearly every believer in the Lord Jesus Christ has seen and talked to angels and didn’t even know
that the kind woman or man who helped them was a spirit servant send by God to assist His beloved child. (Hebrews
13:2). The Lord will send angels to guide us and redirect us when we are losing our way or to keep us from danger or
to give us direction. They stand in the presence of God; they are ministering to Him, rejoicing with Him over salvation of
sinners, and worshipping Him day and night, proclaiming His holiness. They are guards and guardians since the
Garden of Eden days and continue as guardians of the church. They were there to bear witness of Jesus’ resurrection
and ascension and they will accompany Jesus at His return.

Angels are marvelous and awesome creatures. They are not fairy-like little cupids, nor are they nymph-like. They aren’
t baby-faced little midgets with wings. None are described as women in flowing robes though female angels are
certainly a possibility as the Bible does not say angels are never female. What we do have are intriguing descriptions
of Cherubim, Seraphim, and mighty beings. In Ezekiel the Cherubim carried the presence of God (Ezekiel 10, 11:22).
They are described as fiery with wings and human hands. In Isaiah Seraphim continuously proclaim the holiness of
God. They are astonishing creatures having six wings: two wings over their face, with two they fly and two cover their
feet. In Revelation angels are described as strong with a loud voice (Rev 5:2), as mighty with legs like pillars and
flaming fire and the roaring voice like a lion (Rev 10:1-3). There are multitudes of them in the throne room of God.
Many are stationed, not only in His presence, but all over the earth waiting patiently to be released for their purpose.
Angels like Michael and his troops are warriors who battle the satan and his evil fallen horde. (Rev 12:7). Others
release the proclamations of God as they fly through the heavenlies (Rev Chapter 14) and still others release the
judgments and wrath of God during the last days of the earth.
On earth Angels appeared as men to Lot in Genesis chapter 19. An angel appeared and spoke to Gideon as well as to
Manoah and his wife in the book of Judges. An angel appeared to Zacharias the father of John the Baptist and to Mary
the mother of our Lord and to His earthly father, Joseph. Also throughout the book of Acts angels protect, rescue and
bring messages to the apostles.
Angels sing in heavenly choirs according to Luke 2:13 and blow Shofars (trumpets) according to the book of
Revelation. And there is so much more recorded about them such as helping Hagar and Ishmael in the desert,
surrounding Elijah and Elisha with chariots of war, and bringing messages to Daniel.
And lastly, angels are not named except Michael and Gabriel. They are known by their ministry such as comforting,
warring, proclaiming, trumpeting, or guardian.
As you can tell I believe in the existence of angels. And I believe we experience their ministry far more than we realize.
Yet, despite all the record of their ministry and appearance, they were all sent at the behest of our God to assist, but
NEVER to be the focus of our attention. They are not what should excite a true child of God. What should excite us is
our relationship with our Savior, the Messiah Jesus, and worshipping Him. We should be engaged in seeking His face
and longing for the revelation of His Glory which is His presence. As we experience the tangible weight of His loving
presence what should excite us is His touch, His breath, His love, His joy, His peace and receiving illumination of His
word and, most importantly, being transformed in His holy presence into the likeness of Christ.
The fascination with angels is moving rapidly these days from innocent to ridiculous to entry into a danger zone of
idolatry and even witchcraft. We have been starved in this nation for so long of a true move of God that in zeal to
experience something supernatural people are starting to seek “angel experiences” and yearn to hear stories of the
same. Appearances of globes of light, gold dust, feathers, and gems are held up as evidence that angels are with us.
Those signs can also be manufactured and manipulated by assistants to the speaker and none of them (though they
could occur) are Biblical signs of angels anyway. Angels are very straight forward. If Father God tells them to come to
us they simply come and do what He told them sometimes radiating with fire and other times with the simple
appearance of a man.
Naming angels, speaking to angels, singing with angels, having out of body experiences with angels, astral projection
of oneself to other locations, traveling to the 3rd heaven with an angel guide is becoming more common in the church.
When I was a New Age practitioner these were the things I sought to do and see. I have to say that I am grieved over
the lack of discerning of spirits and Biblical discernment amongst the brethren. What I fought to be free of for the first 5
years of my walk with Jesus is now being taught from the pulpit. The leaders are off course and taking the sheep with
them. That truly breaks my heart.
This has progressed to the point that some folks are now seeing small childish “angels” that like to play jokes and
games. I can testify that the tiny angels aren’t from God. They are imps and fairies sent from hell to distract and to
misguide.
Seeking to see angels, having your own named angel, seeking to speak to them, seeking to hear from or sing with
them as your spiritual focus is an occult practice of calling up familiar spirits. Satan masquerades as an angel of light
according to 2 Corinthians 11:14. When you seek after angels and not God, you may not get a holy angel. Satan will
fool whom he can in order to draw attention away from Jesus. If we seek the created beings, whether in the spirit or
earth, instead of the Creator it opens a door for demons to deceive us. Paul warns of falsehood related to angels in
Colossians 2:18-19 Let no one cheat you of your reward, taking delight in false humility and worship of angels,
intruding into those things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshy mind, and not holding fast to the Head,
from who all the body, nourished and knit together by joints and ligaments, grows with the increase that is from God.
Leaders should be pointing us to Jesus and His word not to angels and their works. If angels also appear during a
service focused on Jesus, then they are biblically a sign that is following the word of God being preached. If the focus
of a meeting is mostly on angels, feelings, signs, the speakers own experiences/works and not on Jesus, not on His
word, that leader is out of balance. They are creating an atmosphere out of their own soul that is drawing demonic
“angels of light.” Real supernatural signs and wonders follow the true believer. The supernatural is a result of deep
repentance and humility, lifting up Jesus, seeking Him only and relying on Him to build the rich character that comes
from obeying His word.
My question to angel and sign seekers is if you want a deeper relationship with God, why would you focus your time
and your attention on angels? Dear ones don’t seek the face of angels or their voice; seek the face of God and His
voice. Turn your energy and focus toward Jesus and see Him high and lifted up and knowing His word. Why would you
want to settle for an experience with a “spirit servant” when you can experience God Himself?
In closing, beloved Children of the Most High God, my prayer is that you turn your eyes to Jesus. Seek Him and come
to know the height, the depth, the breadth and the width of His love for you. Seek Him and Him alone and you will walk
in the supernatural realms of transformation where you fulfill your destiny. There you will see hundreds and thousands
come to Christ Jesus as their Savior for it is the time of the Great Great Harvest. Put your time and trust into
relationship with Him, not seeking after “angel experiences” signs or wonders, and you will find yourself suddenly face
to face with a holy and loving God who will astound you with His supernatural love…that is where I long to be… How
about you?
